The agreement between the British government and Australia was signed in June, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfat.govt.nz\/br\/trade\/free-trade-agreements\/free-trade-agreements-under-negotiation\/new-zealand-united-kingdom-free-trade-agreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">negotiations with the New Zealand authorities are ongoing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In this scenario, <strong>new challenges<\/strong> inevitably emerge for companies: how can they be addressed and transformed into business opportunities?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10512 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.matchplat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/post-uk.png\" alt=\"UK international trade: image of a plane and a container\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1150\" title=\"Matchplat\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1920px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1920\/1150;\"><\/p>\n<h3>International agreements: prospects for British exports<\/h3>\n<p>Goals and contents of the new agreements are ambitious: the aim is to bring the United Kingdom closer to a <strong>strategic<\/strong> and <strong>rapidly growing area<\/strong>, strengthening its role as an international power.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Australia and New Zealand are among the 11 nations that are part of the <strong>CPTPP<\/strong> (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for the Trans-Pacific Partnership), a free trade agreement whose members include countries such as Canada, Japan, Singapore and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>The possibility of entering the trans-Pacific area, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/993977\/australia-uk-trade-deal-benefits.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><strong>GDP of over \u00a39 trillion<\/strong><\/a>, represents an extremely valuable opportunity for British exports in the medium and long term.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusion of the agreement in principle with Australia, signed on 15 June, seems to offer companies immediate advantages: firstly, the total elimination of duties on over <strong>\u00a34.3 billion in exports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Government sources suggest some of the <strong>products<\/strong> that will benefit most: cars, automotive components, Scotch whisky, ceramics and chemicals will be sold more easily, boosting key parts of the national economy.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Australian companies will be able to export their goods on favourable terms: from this point of view, there is no lack of concern, especially in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.matchplat.com\/en\/uk-food-beverage-industry-new-opportunities-and-challenges\/\"><strong>food industry<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2021\/jun\/15\/uk-australia-trade-deal-to-include-15-year-cap-on-tariff-free-imports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><strong>greatest fears<\/strong><\/a> come from meat producers, who are worried about increasingly strong competition from Aussie businesses. The latter use a greater quantity of antibiotics for farming, with inevitable consequences for animal welfare and product quality.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities are ensuring <strong>safeguards <\/strong>to support companies, but in the face of a scenario that is still evolving &#8211; as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/uk-closing-in-on-striking-free-trade-agreement-with-new-zealand-liz-truss-says-12368421#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">agreements being negotiated with New Zealand<\/a> &#8211; companies are being called on to play it by ear. But how?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10514 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.matchplat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/post-uk-3.png\" alt=\"UK international trade: the importance of import-export\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1150\" title=\"Matchplat\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1920px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1920\/1150;\"><\/p>\n<h3>Ready for change: the need for different strategies<\/h3>\n<p>In order not to be caught unprepared, players in the UK market need to review their <strong>commercial strategies<\/strong> now.<\/p>\n<p>The first step? <strong>Strengthen existing partnerships i<\/strong>n the areas included in the new deals. For those who already export to Australia and New Zealand, continuing to invest here could be a good choice, especially in light of a future with simplified procedures and reduced costs.<\/p>\n<p>SMEs not yet present here can start looking for <strong>new partners<\/strong> with whom to expand the scope of their business.<\/p>\n<p>The possibility of accessing a market as vast as the <strong>Indo-Pacific region<\/strong> should not be underestimated: the agreement in principle signed with Australia could <strong>open new doors<\/strong> to <strong>areas still unexplored<\/strong> for many British companies.<\/p>\n<p>To seize this opportunity, it will be crucial to carefully <strong>map out potential customers<\/strong>, <strong>distributors<\/strong> and <strong>suppliers<\/strong> present here: a complex challenge but one that will pay off in the long term.<\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the spectrum, companies that fear competition from foreign products &#8211; such as the agri-food companies mentioned above &#8211; may find themselves <strong>diversifying their revenues<\/strong>, looking to new markets for growth outside the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Being prepared for change means being able to anticipate it: are UK businesses ready to take up the challenge?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last year has brought with it enormous news, also for the UK international trade.
