--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1920\/1150;\"><\/p>\n<h3>A growing demand, rising prices and political issues<\/h3>\n<p>The revival of international trade, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.machinery.co.uk\/machinery-news\/uk-manufacturing-pmi-surges-to-record-high-in-may\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Machinery<\/strong><\/a>, is at the root of new challenges: the number of incoming orders has led to ever greater demands in terms of <strong>supply of raw materials and components<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A pressing issue that makes plastics, metals and chips a rare commodity: even in the UK, manufacturing companies are now facing costs that have risen at the <strong>highest rate <\/strong>since the survey was first carried out in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>This situation is currently affecting a number of sub-industries, including <strong>electrical components<\/strong> and <strong>equipment<\/strong>, which are now heavily penalised.<\/p>\n<p>The direct consequence is an <strong>increase in end prices<\/strong> and a <strong>reduction in profit margins<\/strong> for companies: reviewing existing strategies is now more necessary than ever.<\/p>\n<p>Add to this the complexities of the international political landscape, with the <strong>UK-EU agreement<\/strong> reached at the end of April likely to impact the performance of <strong>UK industrial machinery producers<\/strong>, one of the cornerstones of national economy.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to <strong>CECIMO<\/strong>, the European association that brings together machine tool manufacturers from across the continent, representing 98% of production in Europe and 33% of world production.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9456 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.matchplat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Articolo-Kam-3.png\" alt=\"UK manufacturing industry: image of a man working\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1150\" title=\"Matchplat\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1920px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1920\/1150;\"><\/p>\n<p>In a recent<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cecimo.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/POSITION-PAPER-UK-EU-TRADE-AGREEMENT-AMENDED.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> position paper<\/a>, the organisation once again emphasises the centrality of the UK market, which in 2020 accounted for more than 3.2% of the total production of CECIMO member trade associations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exports<\/strong> have continued to be one of the pillars of the action of British producers, who have reconfirmed themselves among the <strong>essential partners<\/strong> for companies in the European Union and beyond: a fact that bureaucracy and the higher costs associated with the current agreements could put at risk.<\/p>\n<h3>How to react to the situation<\/h3>\n<p>While waiting for a revision of the import-export rules, it remains a priority to <strong>update tools and working methods<\/strong>, also for <strong>machinery and electrical components manufacturers<\/strong>: in the UK, more and more companies are understanding the value of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.machinery.co.uk\/machinery-news\/over-half-of-manufacturers-have-their-sights-set-on-digital-transformation-initiatives-to-enhance-operations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>digital transformation<\/strong><\/a> to improve their work. A consideration that affects not only production processes, but also commercial ones.<\/p>\n<p>While the centrality of the European market remains, it may be increasingly crucial to <strong>identify new territories <\/strong>in which to increase one&#8217;s presence.<\/p>\n<p>In the same way, the rising cost of raw materials is pushing us to <strong>look for new reliable partners<\/strong>, to diversify our supply sources and to constantly compare offers.
